We are old men now but we continue to play this game because we like it and because other online games do not interest us ;) .
Passing on to posterity is an enviable future but I am not ready for it. I will therefore continue to come and play, official sessions or not, and I will also continue to watch the forum even if it is really no longer active (until it disappears or until I die). I hardly post on it myself  .
Regardless, I'm a player of the most formidable FPS that has ever existed and just for that I will go all the way :D .
I have nothing to add apart from the fact that seeing this game gradually die out saddens me a little more every day T_T .

The old Martian still alive and playing almost all days :pistols: :rambo:

Indeed Pat, we continue to play for as long as we can, "Official Session" or not.

Although the concept of having "Official Sessions" was intended so Players can meet up and play a variety of Maps on different Servers, far more important is just having enough Players on ANY Server so a good game can be possible.

For example, last night during ® Realworld Server "Official Session" time, Players chose instead to go play on LTD2 server, before then later opting to play on ® Arenaworld Classic Server. There was plenty of action with at least 10 Players on both servers which made it fun for all, regardless of the "Official Session" being completely ignored.

Flexibility is the main factor today, rather than dogmatically sticking to set server times, and Player reliability can not be taken for granted. So it really is up to Players now to decide when and where they want to play.

I was on Realworld Server during 10 minutes but no one come, so I go on LTD2. :?

I completely agree about that. Now, we have to check servers and go where players are.

LooooooooooooooooooooooL, I left the server with these words: "It's like all time, slayer game during a CTF game".

Because it's almost impossible to score when it's rockets, no shield and respawn is fast also.

I prefer shootgun game on their server. :)

No offence Pete, just my thought. But I can say that too, I got warning for camp on Teleport, but when K9 camp almost all time on base, no one warn him.

Sry Paul, I'm off topic, maybe I will get a spank. :xD:

Waiting ages alone on a Server for other Players to join is no fun. So as soon as I'm available to play here's what I do now:

  • Immediately join if the Server already has Players
  • If the Server is empty, join and wait a few minutes in case others join
  • If no one else joins then go to another Server with Players
  • Regularly check the Server in case other Players do join

For myself this involves using 2 computers: one for playing and the other with Qtracker for monitoring all Servers I am interested in. Qtracker also maintains a list of "Friends" and tells me when any of them is actively playing on a Server.

This way all ® RWG Servers are monitored in real time, plus several other "friends" Servers too.

It was good whilst it lasted, we had a long run:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Pelicans on fire off the shoulder of the Halo's. I watched Covenant-Beams glitter in the dark near the Halo Array. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...

Is it time now to die?

I have no Solution Paul. We can just try. Maybe we need 1 or 2 Session days. Maybe make a maplist with the chance to vote for maps or skip.

Yesterday, Pat was alone on the "Official Session" (® Realworld) Server for 30 mins from "Official" start time. Meanwhile LTD2 server was very active with players, mostly with LTD2 clan admittedly (which is perfectly fine) and yet no other players came and joined Pat.

Unfortunately getting my dinner was late, and by the time I could play Pat had already left, so I joined LTD2 server for a quick game before stopping to eat, and then (a little after 9pm UK time) stood alone for almost 30 minutes on ® Realworld Server, and was just about to give up when Pat returned.

Eventually a couple more players joined, and finally we reached about 6 players (max) before ending playing sometime after 10pm (UK time).

What's needed are more players ready and willing to play at European times, and who want to play varied (general) mixed game types rather than just only playing certain game types...

Not that there is anything wrong with only playing specific game types if that's what players want, and naturally that is absolutely alright for those who choose to do so.

The real problem is I fear, that no longer are there now enough of these "mixed game types" enthusiast players remaining to play at European times, and that is why (at European times) "Official Sessions" are dead.

For many years ® RWG hosted servers fulfilling the needs of the community of players which existed then, and it's steadily becoming very obvious "that" community no longer exists these days anymore.

Also, there is little merit hosting servers just to compete with other "specialist" type servers.

Hosting "Restricted Nades", "Anti-camping" (and other rules) "RoxWorld" or "ShottiesWorld" Servers defeats the whole objective... we might as well just go play on already existing servers rather than deliberately attempt to further divide the community in order for "us" to attract players on "our" servers, just because we can.

Moreover, I'm very pleased that LTD2 Clan server is enjoying it's current popularity with players who enjoy that particular style of game play. And more power to them for providing their members with the specific game types they like playing.

Likewise, LE Clan have their own specific brand of game play which is very "Pro" in style and again, excellent for those who seek such game types.

I only mention LTD2 and LE servers because these both are European Player oriented clans capable of playing during European times. Of course there are many other active CE clans, but those aren't mainly European based communities.

Personally I still miss the long, lazy hours ²MA used to spend on Realworld Server every Sunday afternoon playing vast maps such as Coldsnap, Hugeass, Autumn Slay, Abyss Final, Exodus, Geomar Final, TM Fracture, Downflow, WM Combo and countless other huge places to get truly lost exploring.

Yet today, that style of game play has completely gone by the wayside in favour of smaller, faster, intense close up action game play, and which I can play like that of course, but only for about an hour.

Even now I dream of happily driving around with others on Rainbow Road's psychedelic colour track whilst listening to the sickenly repetitive music.

Memories, memories...
